It’s time to add another book to your cocktail collection. Andy Heidel has put an incredibly creative collection of recipes together in his wonderful new book, The Cocktail Guide to the Galaxy: A Universe of Unique Cocktails from the Celebrated Doctor Who Bar.
It has been over a decade since the great American cocktail awakening and within that time period there has been no shortage of cocktail books (ours included). What’s amazing is how many different genres of cocktail books exist out there: brick & mortar vanity books, thematic books (e.g. spicy drinks, winter drinks, bourbon drinks, etc.), sexist books (pink drinks for ladies), uber craft cocktail books, classic books, drink books based on TV shows (think Mad Men), and on and on.
We’ve found that we’re particularly drawn to three types of books: those with realistic photos, those with recipes that require ingredients you can actually find in North America, and those and are down-right quirky.
This book falls into that final category. It’s quirky, but the drinks are totally doable. We’re not Sci-Fi folks but know those who are and are positive that many people will find this book entertaining, whether you ever really make a drink from it or not.
